Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore…

It was a normal sunny afternoon in Batukaras, and we were finding a little solace from the heat by lying on the cool tiled floor of our little village house.

‘Thuck, thuck, thuck…’

The noise stopped, so I ignored it, closed my eyes again… but…

‘Thuck, thuck, thuck…’

There it goes again. We got up to investigate, only to find a huge gecko killing a sparrow on the wall of the hallway, up high, right against the ceiling.

We watched in awe as the giant lizard smashed the bird against the wall, smearing the bright green wall with red blood and feathers.

Barefoot… ever suprised.

I’ve been going to Batukaras on and off for a six years now and on the last trip it was really packed with day trippers, buses and _ I’m sorry to say _ trash. I was longing for some kind of managament: paying people to collect litter and truck it out, stopping the buses driving up over the hill into the bay, that kind of thing. I’d be curious to hear what you have to say, barefoot.
